2015 Dec 17

Shannon McSteen has been accepted into the 2015-2016 Provost's Leadership Academy at Kent State University.

The Provost's Leadership Academy provides incoming Kent State freshman students with a unique leadership experience on campus. The students meet weekly during the fall and spring semesters to reach two goals. During the fall semester, the goal is for the students to understand their leadership style, each other and the community through activities and programs, from which they will generate a list of possible areas of concern within the university community that could be addressed. During the spring semester, the goal is for students to explore and work to improve one of those areas of concern.

Upon the conclusion of the semester, the students will present their final project to the campus community, administrators and Todd Diacon, Kent State's senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, who adds, "The Provost's Leadership Academy is one of the best things about Kent State. This program admits freshmen and teaches them about the ins and outs of running a university--to the extent that Provost's Leadership Academy students, by the end of their first year, understand the operations of Kent State better than 90 percent of our community."

McSteen will receive a $300 book scholarship after successfully completing the program. For more information about the Provost's Leadership Academy at Kent State, visit www.kent.edu/success/pla.
